October 2011

One of my favourite cake months, a chance to make some lovely halloween cakes.  After a summer trip to the states I came back armed with lots of ideas and some fabulous spooky sprinkles - watch out for pictures.

September 2011

Where did the summer go?  After a not-to-hectic summer schedule we are back and ready for anything.  The birthday booking are piling in thick and fast so if you do have a date in mind to celebrate with cake then let us know and we can pencil it in.  Whilst we were away during the summer cakes were never far from mind and there are lots of exciting ideas so watch out.

Things are so hectic at the moment, it's brilliant.  Some weeks are booked already,  We hate to say no to people and think of them celebrating without a lovely cake but there are only so many hours a day and we do like each of our cakes to be special.  If you have a special occasion looming just email us the date and we can reserve it for you.  When it gets a little nearer we will contact you to see if you still require a cake.  As the little furry fella says - simples!  Here are some weeks which are already fully booked or very close ...

April 2011

Wow it's officially the first birthday of Cracking Cakes.  We would have celebrated with a .... cake but we were so especially busy (including a lovely wedding (sniff sniff) that we didn't have time to bake ourselves one.  Thank you to all our lovely customers who have made it so wonderful and tasty.

March 2011

Woooo!  We are going to be at Harpenden Art, Craft and Antiques fair on Saturday March 12th at St Nicholas Church Hall.  Entry is 50p but if you visit their website and print off the page you can get in free.  Look forward to seeing you there.  www.harpendenartcraftandantiques.com

March also gives you the opportunity to raise money for a very worthwhile cause - Yummy Mummy Week is March 26 - April 3.  Every day, ten families are told that their child has cancer.  CLIC Sargent is the children's cancer charity and they need your help.  Organise a tea party, cake sale or anything you like and help raise some much needed cash for the charity.  Cracking Cakes will be donating a percentage of their takings during Yummy Mummy Week.  For more information visit www.yummymummy.org.uk

February 2011

Love is in the air - along with a spot or two of rain!  Yes, I am referring to February 14th - St Valentine's Day.  But this year, instead of sending boring blooms or corny cards, how about a box of cakes?  If the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, a box of cute Cracking Cakes could earn you some major brownie points.  Starting at just £12.00 for a box of 6, delivered in Harpenden during the day on February 14th, they are sure to be a hit.  Place your order now as delivery times are limited.

January 2011

Happy New Year to all Cracking Cakes customers - new and old.  We are into our second year and even more excited than when we started.  what's on the cards this year?  Well, after attending a couple of very successful craft fairs at the end of last year, Cracking Cakes will be looking to get out and about in the spring too.  We'll be there to take orders, chat about cakey things, share tips with home bakers and we'll be selling a few little bits and pieces for those who love baking as much as we do.  Watch this space for more info.

December 2010

Wow!  What a busy December.  Christmas is definately a time for cakes and other sweet treats.  Why not send a box of cakes to a friend or colleague this year?

November 2010

We shall be at the Roundwood Primary School Christmas Fair on November 13th - 12 noon - 3pm.  There will be examples of our work, lots of photos and edible sprinkles and sparkles to buy for those who want to make their own cakes.

October 2010

Bake and Share with National Baking Week 18th - 24th October 2010

Now in its third year, the nation clearly doesn't need too much encouragement to roll up their sleeves and get involved in National Baking Week.  But this year the campaign promises to be bigger and better than ever, as the nation once again rises to the occasion.

This year, the theme of community is a strong one, as more downloadable items will be available from www.nationalbakingweek.co.uk, so people can host their own Bake Sales and events, plus there will be loads of fun things to see and do for all the family, including a 'How To' section for making creative birthday cakes, mobile phone applications and of course delicious sweet and savoury baking recipes for everyone to try and enjoy.

Details available on the website, www.nationalbakingweek.co.uk

September 2010

We were delighted to attend a MacMillan Coffee Morning at the High School in Wheathampstead.  They raised over £1000.00 and everyone had lots of fun.  It was great to be able to talk to people about cakes - as I can now bore for England on the subject.  Beware, I could be coming to a school fair near you!

Sadly we didn't make the finals of Cupcake of the Year (there's always next year) but this month it's National Cupcake Week.  What better reason to order a box of cakes for a friend or colleague who is celebrating an event - or just needs cheering up.

August 2010

Just because the children break up for a very very long holiday doesn't mean people don't still need cake.  There were lots of super summer birthdays, here is just one of them - a real favourite of mine.  Apart from a support in the heel of the shoe, absolutely everything about this cake is edible!  I know, food and footwear, doesn't get much better does it?

July 2010

Cracking Cakes has entered a cupcake for the Cupcake of the Year competition.  Our creation was a coffee cake with a hint of chocolate and a little gingerbread man biccie on the top - coffee and a biscuit in one!  The competition closed on July 16th so we now just await the result.  Winners through to the final seven will hear by August 3rd.

 June 2010

The St Albans Review news team organised a charity car wash in aid of Clic Sargent - the charity that has been providing support to terminally ill local boy Freddie Rowe Crowder and his family.  We were very proud to be able to provide a birthday cake for the buffet organised for after the car wash to celebrate Freddie's 8th birthday and wish Freddie and his family all the best for the future.

May 2010

We were delighted to support some brave souls who were doing the Moonwalk in aid of breast cancer by making some cupcakes for a cake sale.
